For my friend's wedding we needed to wear black knee length skirts with red accents.
So I decided to make a pencil skirt.
I used Butterick 5249 version A for my skirt. It's just a basic pencil skirt with zip back.
Because my top was also supposed to be black, I wanted to add some texture to the skirt and decided to go with lace. I was running my outfit plans by my best friend and she told me lace is the current trend, not that I knew that, but just a lucky coincidence!
I basted the lace to the lining on each piece before constructing the skirt. I didn't want to have to deal with a lace overlay for this skirt, especially since it's not flowy or anything.
It's more of a casual fit, there's no slit in the back so the skirt isn't too tight around the legs so you can still have room to walk. It's a simple skirt and the pattern is easy to follow.
I actually wore this to her wedding, and when we heard of my father-in-law's death I didn't have time to re-pack and so I wore it for that also. I really liked the look of lace, and think I may have to use it more--especially now that I know it's "in".
It is fabulous as usual! You look great in it. You look very tall in the picture as well. That is a compliment because I never look tall. I sorry to hear about your father in laws death. I hope everything will be alright soon.

I keep looking at lace at Joanns or the lace curtain panels at the thrift store and trying to figure out how I can use it. I love the skirt, it looks so classy and trendy all at the same time! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI love the black lace over the black fabric! It's subtle but gorgeous!
