Summer Pocket Skirt {Anthropologie inspired}

_______________________________________________________________
Summer really isn't quite here for us yet.  We still have to have the heater on, disgusting I know.  I tried to leave the heater off in defiance, but it got down to 60 degrees and with my little kids we turned the heat back on...even though it is mid-June!!

Anyway, I hate wearing pants.  I always have.  I would wear dresses all year round as a kid and it was a constant battle with my mom forcing me to wear pants.  Obviously as an adult I wear pants and I'm fine, but I prefer skirts, especially with post baby body.  A stretchy sizeless skirt always sounds good these days--even better if it has pockets.  I have a thing for dresses/ skirts with pockets.
So I wanted to make a few more casual skirts for summer, preferably with pockets and remembered this knit skirt from Anthropologie:
First of all, it looked comfortable, had the stretchy shirred waistband, and had the HUGE pockets!  But maybe they're too huge.  I also didn't love that the skirt was made with knit as the pockets would stretch and the skirt would be more likely to cling.
So mine is out of a cotton/ poly cheap blend.  The pockets don't dip quite so low, and the skirt is longer to cover my bum when I sit down.

The deep pockets are supported by the waistband so all my stuff won't weigh it down or pull the front of the skirt weird.

I've worn it a few times and have loved the pockets!  Because the waistband gets scrunched so much in the shirring process, it makes the pockets bell out a bit, but not saggy like the Anthropologie skirt.

We took our son to see and ride the "real" Thomas a few weekends ago for his 3rd birthday.

The pockets were so handy to drop tickets, keys, money, etc. in so I didn't have to dig around in my purse.  The skirt is comfortable and casual enough I didn't feel dressed up--maybe the fact nothing matches helped too.

I think I'll have to make a few more in different colors to get me through this summer.  I'm working on a tutorial so you can enjoy some pocketed skirts too! (not sure when I'll have it ready exactly)

  1. I don't know what I'm more excited about-the skirt or THE REAL THOMAS! lol. My son loves Thomas, but living in Washington state, means we don't get to see him :(

    Awesome skirt, and it seems like it would be easy enough AND looks just like the Anthro one! Nice job!!

  18. Pretty! I love this look and like seeing something new with shirring that might actually be flattering on a saggy, wrinkling mom of three. :)
