I got the chance to review a new craft book!
I am just starting to learn embroidery, and was thrilled to get to try out Stitched Blooms, that will be available next month.
Carina who blogs at carinascraftblog.com wrote and compliled tons of embroidery patterns.
One of my favorite aspects of the book was the fact you get a CD rom with all the images so you can enlarge, combine, or shrink them to meet the needs of your project.
There are also 20 different projects with instructions, showing you creative ways to use the patterns.
I usually don't go for floral things too much, but was surprised at the ideas I had while looking through the book and I plan to use them hopefully soon on more projects...like a little dress for Ellie. Carina has sections of leaves and minimalist flowers in addition to the traditional folk designs.
Because I'm new to embroidery, I appreciated the pages of instructions on the different stitches.
So before I tried to embellish an actual piece of clothing (which is my goal down the road),
I thought I'd start with a small, simple project to start.
There are pages of leaves, and I picked one that I thought looked like an oak leaf.
I embroidered it on a scrap of rayon challis from my 10 Year Reunion dress, obviously for the color.
I knew this would be decor, so I ironed interfacing on the back to permanently reinforce the drapey fabric.
I framed my little leaf and it will actually join a huge collage at my husband's work.

Lark Crafts publishing is also giving away a bundle of 7 embroidery flosses from Carina's favorites.
