I've been making stuff, but the Thanksgiving holiday last week put me behind,
in addition to my sewing machine breaking and needing to go to the repair shop.
So in the mean time, I wanted to brag about my awesome mom who made these nativity puzzles for each family.
She has a pattern from the 1980s when she made one for our family growing up.

Basically it's two pieces of 1x12 pine. One layer you use a scroll saw to cut out all the shapes, then glue the barn frame to the backing piece of 1x12.
She stains the shapes then toll paints them all.
Each piece is 3/4" thick so they stand on their own for a tabletop nativity scene.
RJ has really loved this puzzle the last few days.
It's fun to use as a puzzle and to stack and play with the pieces.
It's nice that it can't break being wood hunks as well.
You can check out my mom's other huge stuffed nativity she made me last year:
Your mom is simply amazing! Such a cute, creative idea! RJ will love this for years!
ReplyDeletethat is very cool!do you have any info on the pattern?

beautiful work! we have a smaller version of this type of nativity puzzle. it stays out all year round and the kids really love it.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is really beautiful! Would love to find that pattern. My mother would love to have that at her house to keep the kids away from her nativity collection.
ReplyDeleteOh! Is really beautiful I would love have one or make one. Do you know if there is a pattern available? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... my dad made the same nativity so many years ago and your mom did a beautiful job painting each piece. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cute, and clever! I love the painting on each piece. =)
ReplyDeleteIt is NO fun when a sewing machine breaks. I hope yours comes out all right, quickly and inexpensively. =)
This is the cutest nativity! I loved it! I would love to make something like this for my kids one day!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has this one too, except everything is the natural wood. It is beautiful, and we all love putting the puzzle together! Your mom did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteTrying to get a hold of my mom for any info on the pattern. The natural wood versions sound really cool!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is awesome. I would love a pattern, either to by or get for free. Everything looks so real, and yet it fits so great in the stable. I had to go and do a double take to figure out how it all fit together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Super, super talented, your mother. Love that you almost can't even tell what it is until you pull the pieces out, and then it's a fun set to play with. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, the puzzle is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law has this same puzzle and I've been searching for the pattern! I can't seem to locate the actual pattern, do you have a copy of it? Or know where I can purchase it?
ReplyDeleteCan't find the pattern anywhere I would pay for the pattern if you would sell it?
ReplyDeleteWe can't sell another person's work, sorry! I'm not sure if the publisher would have information on where you could get one, it's too bad they don't produce it anymore. Is it Provo craft that published it?
