I love this little piglet backpack. I think she's so cute. This particular backpack is larger than my usual pattern and was made from chocolate corduroy. I used pink ribbon for the strap loops, and pink buttons.

I got this email from a family friend of this little boy. I was honored to make him a special cape.
"I am looking for a gift for a special five year old who has no need for
additional toys at this point. Noah was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a deadly
childhood cancer, two and a half years ago. He has recently taken a turn for the
worse and likely only has a couple more months with us. He is enamoured with
superman and other superheroes. Recently, he told his mom that he knew he was
going to die and asked her if he was still a superhero. I would like to make it
symbolically clear to him that, of course, he is."
Lately I've been working some more toddler backpacks. Some of these I'm really excited about. Hopefully they'll turn out as I imagine.
Lynette and I must be sisters, because we independently each had a "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" inspirtation last week. Hers is much more impressive than mine.
I actually rewatched that movie, and yes, Al is just as handsome, but overall the movie is kind of cheesy. But I loved it as a kid and am still loyal.

These little pajamas for my son were inspired by some fabric in the Claudia raid. My aunt had a sack of left over fabric from drapes she'd made. They were ivory and silky. Rhett was running around playing in all the fabric as we were dumping them out, and he loved the silky drapes, rolling in them and carrying them around. So I thought he would love pajamas out of the drapes with the silky side against his skin. 
As I thought about what kind of pajamas to make, a scene from Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken popped in my head. Sonora wakes up Al early in the morning and he gets out of bed and has these weird sack underwear on. The pajamas would be Al's underwear!!! Basically a sack with the button in the back to get into. I found this add from the 1920s which is what I was thinking of.
Since these jammies were inspired from the diving horse movie, that kindof became the theme. I was going to applique something more masculine on the chest of the jammies so they'd look less like baby lingerie, and so I found old photographs of actual diving horses.
So on the chest of the jammies, I used the freezer paper stenciling to paint the diving horse. To be honest, I was kindof disappointed in the turnout. The tower is too big and it's hard to tell what it all is. If I could redo it, I would just do the horse with the rider diving.
I used pearly cowboy snaps on the back rather than the red buttons I had planned earlier, to add to the horse theme.
So the chest is a little too wide, but he likes the silky jim-jams and they turned out pretty cute I think. I used a red t-shirt for the contrast binding and the strip of red on the back.

This is my aunt Claudia. My little sister, Lynette, and I had the chance to go to her house and take all the fabric she was getting rid of. She makes custom drapes and is remodeling her basement, and needed to get rid of years worth of remnant fabrics, upholstery and more. Lynette and I were dying. It was so exciting. 
We filled my car with trash bags of fabric. It was awesome!!!!! We brought it home and spread it all over the floor of our craft room in my mom's house. THERE WAS TONS. We all went through to pick out what we especially wanted, then we'll put the rest on a shelf for anyone who would like it. We are thrilled to get so much fabric. As we were all sorting through, all these projects were popping through our heads.

My husband has been asking me to make this for over a year.
In our church, we have what we call family home evening it is a night one day a week for "families to study the gospel together and to do other activities that strengthen the family spiritually, create family memories, and increase unity and love." We are not the best at doing this consistently, so my husband wanted a board to help us remember and plan ahead for it.
I got a photo frame on clearance. The background is fabric I cut to fit. For the assignments, I cut up a paper grocery bag 8 1/2 x 11 to go through the printer. I tore the edges and just taped them to the fabric. The idea is you write the names of the people assigned to each task with a dry erase marker on the front of the glass. That way you can easily wipe it off and rewrite the new assignements the next week. 
I've been sewing a lot lately, and I wanted to make something for me. I've had this fabric for a while. It reminds me of Aztec culture or something. First I made it into a simple, elasticisized waist skirt and I hated it. The fabric was too heavy and didn't flow, and the print was too large and looked stupid scrunched. So I decided to turn it into a pencil skirt. It's pretty simple. Because the print is so large I just made a back seam with the zipper and sewed darts at the sides, front quarters, and back quarters. The waistband is thin.
I feel like such a dork taking photos of myself in something I made, so nothing fancy. So here's the Aztec Pencil Skirt.
My good friend Erin is having a little boy. We've been friends since we were 12 and I was really excited to make her some gifts. Lynette (my little sister) and I were combining forces and this was the outcome.
I planned it out and decided to go with blue and green, and we have a black combo and a brown combo. Lynette made the pants. Because this little guy will be born in November in the midwest, we lined the pants with flannel to be extra warm.

The idea for the argyle waffle knit sweater was inspired by MADEbyDana, one of my new favorite sewing blogs. Everything we used for this gift was upcycled fabrics. The argyle diamonds I backed with fusible interfacing and zig-zagged on. The black diamond stitching was normal stitching on the machine with a long stitch length. I also added a green stripe on the back for fun. The little leather black shoes complete the outfit along with the black corduroy pants. Here is instructions if you want to try them. They are actually pretty easy.

I knew I wanted to try the freezer paper stencils for some onesies, but I knew I wouldn't be able to find a green and blue onesie with brown trim, and long sleeves. So I decided I would attempt to make some onesies. I used one of my son's as a pattern. These aren't perfect, but they turned out. For the snaps, all I had were pearly cowboy snaps. I put one on in the center of the owl onesie and it was so thick and strong, I just left a single snap. For about $7.00 I got a snap/ grommet hammer a while ago, and I've really liked it. I had a lot of fun designing the graphics and painting them on.
The little shoes for this outfit have a thick leather sole, and the upper of the shoe is the same chocolate fabric as the pants, lined with blue knit.
Lynette and I enjoyed making these little sets. The baby shower was amazing. The theme was brown/ blue with a bird punch everywhere. The killer was brownies that had blue powdered sugar birds stenciled on top. It was a baby shower decor and treats could have been featured in a magazine. Anyway, we hope Erin liked the little outfits!
