Love Is Blind Quilt
1:26 PMMy youngest brother, Herschel has a corneal disease, and is legally blind. The Utah Foundation for the Blind asked my mom to make and donate a quilt for an upcoming benefit dinner. The theme of the night is "Love is Blind" and they will auction the quilt.
She designed the quilt, obviously with their theme being the theme of her quilt. Each heart represents a blind or visually imparied person in Utah. Yes, my mom counted all these hearts to make sure each person has their place on the quilt. I should ask her which one is my brother.
She appliqued each heart on, which took her an entire day just doing that. So hopefully someone will pay big bucks for this quilt at the auction and the blind kids can get some funds.

Whoa. That is one impressive quilt. Where is my independently wealthy relative who will donate massive amounts of funds and then graciously hand this quilt over to me? I mean, really. Come out of the woodwork already. This quilt wants to be in my home. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I bet anyone who bid on it would go home disappointed if they didn't win! But how can you spend the money it's really worth =)
ReplyDeleteThis freakin ROCKS!! I lovvvveee it when you guys make quilts!
ReplyDeleteThe great part about the hearts was that after I cut them all, I put them in a big bowl and had RJ through them around. We had a good 10-15 minutes playing and then I just left them where they lay. I faced them all right side up and only had to move a few around. It was the best idea I had to get the random effect and sooo much faster than strategic placement. Thanks for the help RJ.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt!! And what a great cause! Lots of talent in that family of yours!! Way to go!!

ReplyDeleteYes, it is a BEAUTIFUL quilt. Thank you so much Sheila. I can't believe how amazingly talented you are! And generous! The quilt will be a wonderful addition to the evening. I hope Jalayne passed on to you our invitation for you and your husband to attend this event as our guests. Thank you again so much for all your help. Tony Jepson, Utah Foundation for the Blind
ReplyDeleteWow that is such a cute quilt! I love your idea for getting the hearts randomly placed! I have a few quilts to start and this is such a cute idea.
ReplyDeleteJessica, just curious when the benefit was, and how was the auction on the quilt? Once again....amazing!!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! And I love that she counted the hearts! My dad has been blind since he was around 20, so the cause is close to my own heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by, we love to hear from you!
