Fresh Blooms Frock: Quail variation
5:00 AM
Ellie needed some new dresses, and I had the chance to sew up a Fresh Blooms Frock
from Melissa at Melly Sews and Blank Slate Patterns.
So here's my version!
Fabric: Navy linen blend
I followed the measurements and sewed a 3T and it fit well with a little room to grow.
For me, the standout detail in this pattern is the asymmetrical collar and who doesn't love a dress with pockets!
This week Melissa is donating 50% of her sales to the Komen Foundation to benefit breast cancer research.
In honor of Melissa's grandmother.

I took a class at Sewing Summit from Miriam on fabric printing and was excited to try it out.
I carved a little stamp from an eraser of a mother quail followed by three babies.
The screenprinting ink was copper to go with additional contrasting detail at the skirt seam.
Not all are perfect, but it was fun to try a new technique.
For me, the standout detail in this pattern is the asymmetrical collar and who doesn't love a dress with pockets!
Overall, a quick sew with some unique details!

Love the collar! So cute. Ellie's eyes really pop with that color and I love the quails. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI like how Ellie always needs a treat to be in pictures. The boots look awesome.
ReplyDeletebeautiful dress! love the collar, and love the stamping detail. so cute!
ReplyDeleteJust great. really like the added feature with the stamping. Give the model an extra pat on the back even if she needs some smarties. Keep up the good work. Will the climate where you are allow for a layering to keep her wearing it year round??
ReplyDeleteSo cute - love the mama and baby quails! Thanks for being on the tour.
ReplyDeleteLove the quail printing you added. Very cute dress!
