Shoe Update

1:37 PM

A few weeks ago I spray painted a pair of shoes I never wear.
Remember this post?

Well some asked to find out how they worked, and unfortunately the idea was kind of a bust.  I wore them Sunday and by the end of the afternoon, the spray paint had cracked.

Mainly at the base of the toes and arch.

So maybe if you had one event, or if you thought of a cool look to get the whole shoe crackled on purpose, otherwise not my best idea.

  1. I did that once, years ago. Same thing happened. I did see on another blog where they modpodged cute fabric to old shoes. They looked super cute, but I also wondered if they'd crack at all.

  2. Well, you tried and that is what counts! Fabric shoes would probably work!!! Great idea Kath!

  3. OK... I ruined a pair of shoes for the last round of OMTWI, so there goes my idea of spray paint to save them. I love that you showed the Fail. :)

  4. Loved the idea! Sad about result, so I googled it and found there are spray paints for leather, plastic and vinyl. One brand that I found was Meltonian Nu Life Paint.

Keep the idea, change the paint. I look forward to more of your experiments!

  5. I'm still really glad you posted about it. You still showcased your creativity and maybe inspired some other people to look at items in a new way. Plus, I feel like a more normal person when other crafty people have failed projects. It makes me feel less alone when I have to throw in the towel on something!

  7. Funny! I've been wondering if they held up. I think your idea was great but maybe a different paint like your other follower mentioned may have worked. Since these shoes are ruined why not experiment? Remove the paint and use the type for leather! It would make for an interesting post and just maybe a new pair of shoes!!!

  8. There's a leather spray paing - sorry no brand info. I used to roller speed-skate and it was the "style" to personalize your skates - I did half of each in a checkerboard pattern - faaaancy!!

  9. I like the cracked too!! It needs more cracking, but I think the purple showing through looks way cool. 'Course you could only wear them with certain outfits...

  11. I love that you posted this, I've seen dozent of post about spraypainting shoes and always wondered what they would look like after you actually wear them.
Are your shoes leather or faux leather?
I agree with the previos posters, if you could crack them a little bit more it woul look like a nice effect.

  12. I don't think you failed at all. What a fun new look. We crackle paint walls, furniture, finger nails so why not crackle shoes?

  14. I'm in theater and we paint shoes all the time. If you want to try this again, we only use NuLife. You can spray a layer of that down in a neutral color and then use floral spray (which is cheaper)to get it the color you want. It works for us at least!
