Wrapped Leather Cuff Tutorial

5:00 AM

I used scraps from my leather strip project (will share it on Saturday!!) to make a cuff bracelet.
This is the dark copper mountain saddle leather.

I had a few lengths of 3/4" strips, and I couldn't let them go to waste!

Supplies:
leather strips & supplies to finish edges
heavy thread
heavy-duty snaps

1. Arrange scraps as they will lay and finish edges that will be exposed.

2. I wrapped cardstock around my wrist and cut an even length for the template.
My paper template was measured to meet together, no closure measured in.
Next, I sewed the strips on top of each other, layering from the base up.

I used Coats Outdoor turquoise thread I got as SWAG at Sewing Summit!

3.  Once layers are sewn, use rotary blade to cut ends even to match your paper template.
I added another piece 1.25" wide for closure, sewing it right sides together at one end of cuff.
Add heavy duty snaps.
I just used two and followed package instructions.
Debating about adding a third in the middle....hmmmm.

4. To press the seam that folds on itself, hammer it flat since you obviously won't be ironing leather.

There you go!
A thick easy cuff to take care of your leather scraps and trick people into thinking it is actually wrapping around your wrist.

If you want to make a New Year's Resolution to Sew For Your Man more often...
I'm teaching a class at Burdastyle.com going through the most common alterations for men's suits!!
It's kind of pricey, but if you've ever had to pay a tailor to alter a suit, the knowledge you'll get can save you cash in the long run.
