Pretty Cool: Simple Quilts and Sewing Magazine

4:00 AM

My Dino Tails are in a magazine!
I know big bloggers are authoring and publishing books and have their own fabric lines, but this was pretty exciting for little me and the first time my sewing designs have been in print.
Earlier this spring I was contacted to contribute the dino tails and create a new trick-or-treat tote to go along with the tails.
It's actually a really cool magazine. They publish a spring and fall issue, and it's just solid projects, which makes it a little more expensive as magazines go.  This is regularly $9.95 at JoAnn, but magazines do qualify for coupons.  It's a lot of projects with zero ads, which is nice, all in a magazine form.  I wish quilting didn't consume so much time, I've found a stack I'd like to make along with new quilting techniques with curved piecing I'd like to try.
If you're stuck in line at JoAnn, open it to page 20 and check out the clambake quilt.

So this Spring before I went into pregnancy coma, I had to make a new batch of tails to coordinate with the newly designed totes.
I got to use Michael Miller fabrics, which was fun to work with.

So the project is now in print and I'm pretty stoked!
I showed RJ he was in the magazine, even if it's just the back of his head and he wasn't too impressed.
The project is a nice, condensed page of instructions in the magazine.

The totes have online instructions as a bonus, but they aren't quite available on quiltmag.com yet.

They're pretty cute and super easy to make.
Great way to use scraps.

They had our pictures as well, and info on their website for more designer info.
My little round head in the corner was probably the weirdest part of the whole thing for me.
It was such a great experience and opportunity, and I made a little money as well which was nice.
I'd love to have future publications, but not sure it will happen ever again!

  2. Congratulations! Enjoy the success and don't put yourself down...you have really cool, creative ideas. And one of the reasons you are in this publication is because you are a do-er. Doers go places. So, you'll probably find your projects appearing in more and more places. And you ARE "published," by the way, anytime you want on your blog! You probably have far more readers than you know about (Like me. I guess I'm what they call a "lurker" because I haven't officially subscribed to any blogs? :-} ). Anyway, congratulations on your article!
