Holiday Pleated Skirt

Another pleated skirt for my sister-in-law this time!
She saw Carrie Underwood wearing this pretty glam, silver pleated skirt and wanted one of her own.
She bought her fabric at Joann, which surprised me when I saw it.
The skirt is a silver satin base with the geometric sequined sheer over-skirt.
The sheer fabric was actually home decor, not apparel fabric.
I thought the large geometric print with the sequins turned out really cool in the pleated skirt.
These skirts are pretty easy to make, I don't measure for the pleats at all.
I just use proportions and so it makes it go really fast and ends up looking more impressive than it actually is.
My christmas skirt was fuller, where she wanted less of a bell shape, more of a classic a-line skirt, so I just took less out of the beginning cylinder.
I thought it would be fun for New Year's as well.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful skirt Jessica! Did you just do a very thin fold over hem on the outer layer or hem it some other way?
ReplyDeleteI basted around the raw edge 1/4" to give it a foundation. Then I did a regular double fold hem, and the basting stitch helps you turn it and keep it consistent on the thin fabric.
DeleteI did the sheer overlay first, then I could hem the silver satin to be just 1/4" shorter so they lay right in the end.
